Cannot detect a hard disk
« on: April 18, 2010, 03:47:46 PM »
About 7 months ago I had a power outtage while my comp was on. I have an hp pavilion. When I turn it on it loads the blue screen that says hp invent then it loads the windows page that has the scrolling bar. It bounces back and forth between these two pages. When we tried to do a system recovery, it says that it was successful, but then when you try to boot it back up and go into the boot screen it says that the hard disk cannot be detected. What does this mean? Do I need a new hard drive? Thank you.

So you haven't been able to boot for 7 months, is that what you are saying?

    Hello,
Does the missing hard disk appear in Disk Management?  If so, you might have to right-click it and assign a drive letter.
To open Disk Management, click the Start button, type diskmgmt.msc in the search box, and click OK
