    downgrade from Vista to XP
    « on: May 21, 2010, 11:27:00 AM »
I am wondering if someone can tell me step by step how to remove Vista and install XP, or is this possible?

First question, why do you want to change?

What are your computer specs?  Processor, RAM, etc?

Can your system support Win 7?  If you are going to make a change why not go with the latest?

What difference does it make why he wants to do it?

By the way doglover, before you install XP make sure you have the proper drivers ready to install.

It sounds like the OP has some issue, or problem, with Vista.  It may be easier, and cheaper,  to solve that issue than change the OS.

No offense, and all due respect - I prefer not to guess at - or question - motives. If the OP wants to know how to downgrade I'm happy to answer the question. If he or she wants to know how to fix some other problem.... well, the question wasn't asked ;)

No offense taken, but I still think Why? is a valid question.

    I agree with everbody.
    I prefer XP over Vista.
Some help is needed to do it right.
    It shroud not be difficult.
But it can be near impossible.
Here is just one of many places that outline the steps needed.
    Quote
    ...
    Requirements:
    1. About 2 hours to perform all necessary tasks.
    2. A Windows XP CD. With valid key, of course.
    3. Basic knowledge of partitioning.
    4. Basic knowledge of (re)installing XP.
    5. Knowledge of what a "driver" is.
    Pre-install:
1.Before you attempt to install XP, backup any important files. Installing XP over Vista will necessitate formatting the hard drive.
    2. You need to find drivers for all of your hardware. XP's driver collection was barely adequate in 2001, let alone today. A basic checklist of parts you need to find drivers for:
    A. Video card (NVIDIA, ATI, Intel, S3, Matrox, etc...)
    B. Sound card (Creative Labs, Intel, Realtek, etc...)
    C. Ethernet controller (Intel, Broadcom, Realtek, etc...)
    D. Wireless controller (Intel, Atheros, Broadcom, Realtek)
    E. Motherboard chipset (Intel, Via, NVIDIA)
You can find information in Vista's Device Manager, as well as on your computer manufacturer's site. The manufacturer may (or may not) also have XP drivers for the parts available. If they do not, try to find a specification list for your model, and work backwards from that.

This issue has been widely covered over and over again.
Maybe the OP did not do a Google?
If so, there is a lot he needs to know.

I prefer XP over Vista too, but I wouldn't go to the trouble of changing my OS because of it.  My home PC is XP and I can't think of a good reason to change it.

But Vista is OK, and Win 7 is OK, but maybe I'm just lazy, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The reason is this. I like XP and don't want to have to learn how to use the computer all over again.  ??? I have XP on my desktop, and want to get a laptop, ( which by the way have found one) and it has Vista on it. So I want to take it off and make a clean install of XP, but don't know how to go about it. No I didn't google it. Maybe I can do that and find my answers. :P
