    « on: May 26, 2010, 12:38:29 AM »
I sometimes receive emails which show me as the sender. Does this mean someone has got into my copmputer using my name :o to send these emails to others in my address book?

      Hi,

If it is gmail account then it seems to be gmail spam, which happens with everyone everytime. If it is someother email acccount then try to reset your password once and check.
Make sure you don not share your password with any one.

Please try to open those mails which shows that you are the sender and check sender's email address.

The other possibility is that you're getting something called "self-sending spam."  Self-sending spam is a kind of spam that spoofs (or fakes) the "From" field to make it the same as the "To" field.  It's a fairly clever way to bypass spam filters, as many of them will not block e-mails sent from the owner of the mailbox.

Third-party software can be installed on mail servers to block spam, and many of them have options for blocking self-sending spam.

As for Gmail...I'm not so sure.

Part of the problem is most people don't generally deal with computer problems. So for most they think that close enough is good enough.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I have deleted emails but will open any in future one to check contents. I will look at my spam control to stop any from myself.

You didn't mention what email program you are using.

I've got a couple of email accounts and gmail is one of them, and I've never gotten a single spam on it.

My sister has an AOL email account and she gets more spam in a single day than I've gotten in my entire life (maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but not by much).  I've tried to get her to switch to something else, but that's like talking to a rock.

I have several email accounts and have them all go in to Outlook Express which saves me going to each in turn so I never look to see if I have spam.

After your post I have looked at two. Hotmail has a junk box which is empty. Googlemail has a spam box and has 1046 messages.

Strange - but no problem it empties itself after several days.
