    Dual Core/i3/i5/i7 CPU Question.
    « on: July 31, 2010, 04:03:26 PM »
    Ok im confused.

I understand a dual core processor is one processor with 2 cores, making multi tasking easier.

So if the dual core has 2 cores, does the i3 have 3, the i5 have 5, and the i7 have 7? Because i read in a magazine the i7 has 3 cores. Someone help  ::)

The Core I3 is DC. The I5 uses the Clarkdale DC and the Penryyn QC from the 750. Not sure if the same Penryyn is used for the Core I7. They are all QC in the 800 and 900 series except the 970 which has Six Cores.

      Penryn?  I think you're confused.
I3 has 2 cores, the i5 6 series has 2 cores with hyperthreading to make it seem like a quad, the i5 5 series has 4 cores, and the i7 series has 4 cores with hyperthreading to make it seem like an 8-core - the i7 970 and 980X are the exception, they have 6 cores with hyperthreading for a virtual 12 cores.

Your right Calum, my mistake. Was thinking of my Core 2 Duo. I should have said Lynnfield. TH. This is not as comprehensive as the FAQ's on Intel, but worth a read. My mistake will teach me not to surf while drunk.
