Boot selction failed because a required device is inaccessible

I've got an Acer Aspire 5735Z, laptop.One day when I tried to boot I got this Error: Boot selction failed because a required device is inaccessible. I've tried rescue disks, to no avail. It now only attempts to boot occasionally, maybe after being switched on for several hours. it almost never gets to the Windows screen before shutting down.

Any advice would be very welcome.
