    Screen Stays Black
    « on: August 03, 2005, 03:54:08 AM »
    Hi everyone.

I have recently completed my first self-build, and to my amazement it actually works.

The only problem is, that occassionally, I will switch on, and it fires up, but my screen remains black. If I then restart, it boots up fine.

I am a little worried because my old computer broke, but booting up, but the screen always remained black.

The monitor is plugged in correctly and everything. What things should I be checking please?

Many thanks for any replies posted.

    • Reseat and test all hardware individually.
-- Take special care with the videocard, it may be loose
    • Reseat all cables and firmly reconnect them
    • When the screen is black, do you hear any beeps or does the computer normally boot?

    1) Sometimes the inside of the monitor is bad. Test the monitor in the following manner:Turn the monitor OFF. Unplug your monitor from your computer, but leave the power connected to the monitor. Turn the monitor ON. It should give you a little thingy that says to check the signal cable.

    2) Make sure your monitor and computer unit are compatible.

    3) make sure you have the proper drivers.

The monitor is only a couple of years old. I am only a layman, but I really don't feel that it is anything to do with the monitor.

      Thanks for the posts everyone.
