Was working fine.  One fine day I come along turn the computer on to be greeted by the BSOD 'Unmountable Boot Volume'.

How do I fix this?  I was reading on the internet about using the recovery disk.  Is a recovery disk the same an xp installation disk?  Even so, I dont have the original disk that came with the computer, Im not even sure I got one.  I do have a retail disk that I bought.  Can I use that disk to give me the recovery options?

On another note, if nothing else works and I decide to reinstall the operating system, will that work and get rid of this error?

Boot to the XP CD and choose the first repair option. This will take you to the recovery console. Run chkdsk /r then reboot. What happens?

Chkdsk /r   In the recovery console should fix. If you need more info on it, theres a microsoft help page for that.
