External Drive format problem (Mac and Win)
    « on: February 10, 2011, 12:39:25 PM »
    Drive A – Seagate 2TB (current format FAT32)
Drive B – WD my passport 071A (current format GPT)

Here is the issue. I have two external disks, drive A and B, used for backup and storage primarily. They are in quite good condition and have not been dropped, hit, etc. to my knowledge. I recently tried to use them and both would not appear on my computer (running WinXP). I opened disk manager on XP and Drive B appeared but nothing registered and it looked blank (although it said it was a healthy GPT protected drive). Drive A had nothing.

I then plugged them into a Mac and using Disk utility both appeared (but could not open the files on either, otherwise the Mac would just crash). When trying to reformat (that’s all I could do at this point) drive A came up as:  error: resource busy. Drive B – error: could not unmount disk.

Please let me know if I need to put any more information, and if the issue can be solved.  :)
