how to load operating system on dell inspiron 910 mini

I started my dell today,and it would not load.A black screen came up saying *operating system not found* and it would not load any further than this screen.I have an operating system reinstallation cd,but i tried loading cd with portable cd-rom drive,but nothing happens.Can anyone help please.

Welcome to CH forum. Many volunteers here would like to help you. First thing is to give all relevant details about your computer and the problem. The  computer may have ability to boot up from the installation disk. But the details vary by both maker and model.
