    Hyperterminal
    « on: July 27, 2011, 06:20:03 AM »
    Hi there,

I've been lurking around the website for a while but never really had an issue worth creating a thread for. But there i am giving it my first try.

We got 10 computers that have hyperterminal on it. We receive calls and information is displayed on the hyperterminal. For some reason, the information is immediately sent to the print queue and gets stuck there, causing the print queue to stop printing anything else (obviously).

We had a workaround where we created a little dongle that we put on the parallel port so everything that is sent to the parallel port would "print to itself/nowhere".

We are now going to put in computers that doesn't have any parallel port so this workaround won't work anymore. Any ideas how to mimic this "print to itself" behavior?

    Thanks for your help!

      We receive calls ...
Can you explain the scenario in more detail?  I think that might help us help you.  What do you mean by "calls"?  What's the purpose of these "calls"?   How is this related to the core business of your organization?

We are a Telephone Answering Service. So we receive all kind of calls. The information showing is private information about the caller and its whereabouts.

We transfer these calls to the appropriate place and when another call comes in, the hyperterminal scrolls down and the new info is shown. (and sent to the print queue)

An Ethernet to serial adapter is plugged in the computers and go to a Memotec pad where it's then again converted to serial.

I can provide more private information in a PM if you think you need more info to help me.

Well, I may not be able to help; I'm not very familiar with Hyperterminal.  However, I think the additional info you posted will be helpful to someone else who may be able to assist you.

I believe Microsoft included it in Windows systems up through Windows Vista but did not include it in Windows XP but it can be installed in Windows Vista or 7.  What OS are you running on the computers in your office?

I've use hyperterminal many times, usually for communicating a laptop with a piece of electronic equipment which is one of it's primary functions, but I don't think it was designed to do what you are using it for.  I'm a little surprised it works for you at all.

There is a lot of software designed for answering services, none of which I've seen are free, but you may need to take that next step.
