Computer is slow, dont know much about drivers
    « on: July 30, 2011, 10:44:48 PM »
I posted in another forum on Bleepingcomputer.com but I thought posting here might be better.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic411976.html

The gist of my other post is that I have a new computer that was custom made with a clean install of windows and it runs really poorly.

Ive looked for the Drivers myself from what I think is my computer/motherboards manufactuers website but they only off a program that costs money to use and has a lot of bad reviews.

On a speccy scan it says that my motherboard Bios brand is Phoneix Technologies and the model is 760GX-M.

Ive tried some driver search engines but I cant seem to find anything, and Im not sure if that model and brand is what I should be looking for.

Everest says my BIOS type is Award
It says my Award Bios type is Phoenix-Award Bios V6.00PG
Award BIOS message says 760GX-M Ver 1.1D 12/11/2006

Not sure if any of this helps

    Thanks for reading.

    Try www.drivethelife.com
I know the english is horrible, but it has a MASSIVE library of drivers. It will auto-detect missing/outdated drivers (excluding the BIOS drives, those have to be flashed manually).
BIOS drivers should only be updated when compatibility issues arise-you need to be very careful when flashing the BIOS.

This computer's specs are simply... horrible. Tthe Sempron 3000 is the open-die one, if i remember correctly... The Sempron was released a long time ago, in 2004. How much did you pay for this PC? I'm guessing around 200 bucks or so... I am not surprised at all that it has terrible performance.

Not sure why you think drivers will speed things up.  It's about a 7 year old motherboard, because it's using DDR RAM, which was only used in new boards for a year or 2.  Still has AGP slot which is virtually obsolete.  You only had this built 3 weeks ago?  Why would you have a new custom computer built from outdated components?

Ive read several articles and help guides that say a reason my computer might be running slowly is that my drivers are "out of date".

Heres some links to a few of them.

      http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000179.htm

I didnt have anyone build it for me. I just bought it from someone who made it a while ago I guess.

So theres nothing I can do?

        ------------------------------
        add more ram
reduce the number of startup programs at boot  time ( look at Taskmanager and Msconfig  for cpu and ram  hogs )
        use a good antivirus program
        run ccleaner
        run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
