    Is this a recent problem or has the cd-drive never worked?  Have you tried updating the drivers for your cd-drive?  It sounds like you may need to invest in a new one.  Do you have another cd-drive you could try connecting to the computer to see if it works and it is not some kind of problem with your computer?

    Optical drives do not use 3rd party drivers - there's nothing to update,

    Please explain EXACTLY what is going on, when it started, and what led up to it.
