The ethernet cable is also called a CAT-5 cable with RJ-45 terminals.

This link explains how to wire the cable for a specific use.

In your case, you want a cable with the A configuration on one end and the B configuration on the other. It is called a cross-over cable.

If you don't have the tools or knowledge to make this yourself, many shops that carry network cables can make one for you or they have them readily available. As Geek said, just tell them you need a cross-over cable.

If you've already got a regular network cable, you can just buy an adapter for $4.99 from TigerDirect.com:

If you don't have a normal cable, TigerDirect also carries ready-made crossover cables from $2.99 to $7.89, depending on how long you want it:

All you need to make your own is a sharp knife. Otherwise, it is hard to do with just your teeth.

and duct tape, you cant forget the duct tape...

no really, it works good for low voltage electrical tape,

EDIT: also, heres a pic of how you need to wire it up, and most cables that you buy stock, will say patch if they are a patch cable, and generally the ones that dont seem to be crossover, or custom made cables,

I use wireless connection with a TP-LINK TL-WN951N card and it is connected to a NETGEAR router. I don't know its model because it isn't mine. It belongs to my father.

If you have wireless why not just utilise that to connect/network both PC's ? ?

The title of your thread is:  How to connect xp and 7 with an ethernet/phone CABLE "

I use wireless connection with a TP-LINK TL-WN951N card and it is connected to a NETGEAR router. I don't know its model because it isn't mine. It belongs to my father.

Then you said:  "I use wireless connection with a TP-LINK TL-WN951N card and it is connected to a NETGEAR router."

They are already connected, that's what a router does.  How can you not know the model, you are using it?  I suspect you are attempting to hack into your father's computer.  We don't help with that sort of thing.

First, it is my router's model that I don't know.
Second, The one with Win 7 doesn't have internet connection (I only have access to wireless).
Third, I want to redirect you for the conversation to a new topic.

Patio, I answered him on is other post. The USB product he mentions may be an outdated item that is no longer available and there is not  a windows 7 driver for it.
But I could be wrong. But he did not name the product, so I had to guess. My guess was the one tht is not longer supported. I think if he have bought the right product he would not be here. The one that works is made by LapLink and is sold on Amazon.
