computer wont boot up

i got a computer from a family member for free so i built it up, i have had experance building computers, this is the firsat one that has not started for me, i mean nothing comes up no bios no settinf no nothing, i am thing it might be a video card or a display problem?? i checked all connections and all that stuff i can hear the computer running but i dont see nothing!!! any ideas on how to fix this? please help thanks alot!!!

    When you say you built it up, what did you add to it and was it working before you you added anything to it. need more info on the comp and os. Did you hear any beeps on booting up, are all the fans spinning when you start it up. Did you try another Graphics Card?. have you tried reseating everything Ram and Cards. Is the monitor working ok. Test on another computer.
