Explorer Doesn't List External SATA Drive
    « on: January 05, 2012, 07:41:10 AM »
I have installed a USB 2.0 SATA HDD External Box on my laptop.  I find in listed in devices as a USB Mass Storage Device and when I troubleshoot it the OS says that it is working properly.  But when I open Windows Explorer it is not listed as a drive.  What do I do to get Explorer to find and use the drive - I want to use it as a Back up.

How does it show in Disk Management ? ?

If it was shipped as a blank HDD Windows cannot see/use it until it is formatted.

It shows as unallocated.  I figured out that means it is not formatted.  But I can't figure out how to format it.

Right clik unallocated space and select Allocate...then right clik the drive and select format...NTFS.
