Problems With Deleting Files
« on: September 19, 2005, 01:15:08 PM »
Located on my UBS/Thumb drive are unidentified files I cannot delete.  The files do not have any extensions and the file names are caricatures and symbols.

When I click on the "Properties" there is not information about the file.  The memory space is "0KB".

When I try to delete I get a "...cannot identify the source..." error message.

Anyone encounter this type of error before?

Thank you for your time & help.

You can always format it. If they are still there, they are meant to be.

    Sounds like corrupted data.

Try using the Windows disk checker to find and fix errors:

    1. Open My Computer
    2. Right-click your thumb drive and choose Properties from the menu.
    3.  In the thumb drive Properties window, click the Tools tab.
    4.  Click the button to begin checking for errors (not the button to defragment the drive).
    5. In the Check Disk dialog box, check Automatically Fix File System Errors and check Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors.

Let us know if Check Disk finds any bad sectors, and how many it finds.

    Regards,
