serial usb controller not seeing device

i was told by Sony support on theit chat support to take my sony vio VGN-NW20EF bact to factory settings due to the disc drive not working, i done this, now the lap top does not see my Novus when i plug into the USB, worked before, other usb connections are working ok, i am now confused

What is a Novus ?
Does it need its own instillation and drives?

If it is a remote temperature and environment monitor, it is not a standard feature of your Toshiba. It is not a simple USB device. The device  and has its own instantiation software. Do the install again, using the CD that came with that USB external controller.
