unallocated space on hdd
« on: April 19, 2012, 12:04:44 AM »
sir,
i am using win 7 home basic / 320 GB hdd / and 3 GB ram.
in my disk management.......it shows the 9.12 GB unallocated......
the descriptions of all drives which exist are....

C / simple / basic / NTFS / healthy (boot, system, page file, active, crash dump, primary partition) / capacity 50.56 GB / free 14.15 GB / fault tolerance no / overhead 0%

d /  simple / basic / NTFS / healthy / logical drive / 68.36 GB/ 8.47 GB/ f.t. no / overhead 0%
e / simple / basic / NTFS / healthy / logical drive / 72.26 GB/ 4,89 GB / f.t. no / overhead 0%
f /  simple / basic / NTFS / healthy / Primary  partition / 97.66 GB/ 19.87 GB/ f.t. no / overhead 0%

one drive without any name/ simple / basic / healthy (OEM partition) / 125 MB / 125 MB / f.t. no / overhead 0 %

now my exact problem is that in graphical view it's showing 9.12 GB unallocated.
i tried to use it to extend my any of existing drives.....but at right click at each of the drive EXTEND VOLUME option is not inactive.......
and on the other hand, i even can't make a new drive too, because it's saying that maximum no of partitions are already made.

i don't want to mount this space as a folder, but i want to add it to my E:.

what will be the best to use this space.....
thanks in advance.
Best Regards
Nams

Leave it alone!

If.you need more space, remove stuff you no longer need. Or move it to your eternal backup drive.

Without more details.. my guess is that there must nave been a reason it went unallocated. You can use a third-party tool. But without a backup I an reluctant to recommend it.

He is a very reliable FREE tool that will work with Windows 7 and Vista.

The ask for a donation, but the program is FREE to use. I have used it to get myself out of some bad mistakes I have made with partition management. I trust the program,. but still I think you need to have some kind of backup plan just in case.

If you have a hi-spied Internet, you can store you personal stuff on a free cloud service.

A screenshot of disk management would help clear things up.

You can't extend and partition except the one right before and right after that space.

If you want to extend one of the other partitions, you need to move the partitions first so that the unallocated space is adjacent to the partition you want to expand.
