    Has my hard drive failed?

    For awhile now (about 3-4 months) my computer has been freezing intermittently. Initially I thought it was some sort of virus or malware, but the problem would go away for awhile then come back again. Recently I got the Error Disk Recovery window and when I ran the disk repair option, it seemed to fix the problem at first. But then it came back again and then a week ago when it cropped up again, the computer rebooted on its own and now keeps referring to Error Disk Recovery.  But when I initiate the disk repair all I get is an image of the Welcome screen graphic and the progress bar never appears. Selecting the 'Start Windows Normally' option just causes the computer to reboot. Iíve run the Dell 32-bit Diagnostics Utility test and got:

    Error Code 0F00:1332
    Msg: DISK-Block 2321200: Interrupt Request(RQ) did not set in time

    Wheeler a computer shows possible hardware error, a backup plan needs to be initiated right away.

    But if you do not have a backup, do this:

    You can get an external hard drive for a backup of data, such as your documents, music and photos. You can boot your computer from a  CD that has nits own penetrating system. You them mount the failing drive and locate your data and copy it to the external drive.

    After that, proceed to try and repair the failing drive, if possible. Do the backup first. Unless you don't care. There is no way to guarantee recovery of a fainting drive. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.

      All my important files I already keep on an external drive.

      The one I'm having trouble with is an internal drive that my OS is installed on (and is the only thing I keep on it).

      It's not a big deal if I have to get a new drive and reinstall the OS, I just want to be sure if that step is even necessary before I do.

      Get a disk imaging app...
      Paid ...i recommend Acronis True Image...
      Free...i recommend Macrium Reflect.

        Do you have the original Windows 7 install DVD?

        They can be ran from a bootable CD you create when you get the program...

          No...it came pre-installed.

          Also Macrium Reflect doesn't seem to be running off the disk I created, unless it normally takes time to initiate (nothing's happened in the 20 minutes I've had the computer running)...

            Macrium Reflect will bot in under two min.  Test it first on a working machine, just to see how it works.
            Make sure the BIOS is set to boot from CD.

            I chose the run from CD/DVD drive option under the F12 menu. Is that what you mean?

              Yeah, was kinda sensing that's where this might be headed.

              Just in case, maybe you guys could point me in the right direction for reinstalling an OP? If I go that route, it'll be my first time doing it.

              If you're the registered owner of the machine, you'll have to get the DVD's from Dell.
