ADDING A SLAVE HARD DRIVE
« on: September 24, 2005, 11:29:25 PM »
i HAVE TAKEN MY OLD HARD DRIVE FROM MY OLD COMPAQ PRESARIO PENTIUM II AND ADDED IT TO MY HP PAVILION PENTIUM III AS A SLAVE WITH THE HP DRIVE AS MASTER.  THE HP RUNS XP PRO. THE COMPAQ RAN XP HOME.
THE HP RECOGNIZES THE OLD DRIVE (CALLS IT DRIVE G AS WELL AS JUST INCREASING THE SIZE OF DRIVE C, DEPENDING ON HOW YOU ASK IT), BUT CALLS UP ONLY SHORTCUTS AND DIRECTORIES.  XP WILL NOT ACCESS THE PROGRAMS OR DATA FILES (SUCH AS THE EMAILS AND PHOTOS THAT I WANT TO COPY INTO MY CURRENT FILES).  MY AIM IS TO HAVE A SECOND DRIVE AS A BACKUP AFTER COMBINING THE FILES.
HOW CAN I GET XP TO GO TO G: AND ACCESS (AND COPY) THE FILES THERE?
APPRECIATE THE HELP!
THANKS, BILL

First off lose the ALL CAPS thing. :o

You will not be able to run the programs installed on the slave drive. The critical components to make it run as well as the registration have never been loaded on the PIII.

You can use Explorer or My omputer to manually copy the files you want to any destination you want.
