sleep mode
« on: August 27, 2012, 04:05:31 PM »
 i have a HP DV4-1275mx laptop . i'm running Vista 64 bit Home Premium .

when i try to put the comp into sleep or hibernation mode the screen goes black for a second or two then goes to the log in screen .

i have shut down the mouse's ability to wake the machine and the network was already set not to wake the machine . i went through the start up configuration and shut down all but the needed start up processes .

nothing has worked so far .

i remember reading something about there being a needed file for sleep and hibernation without which the modes wouldn't work .  where would i find it and what should it contain ?

any other things i can try to get it working ?

i checked the power option settings first thing . unless i missed something it's set to sleep automatically after an hour on battery , never on plug in , etc ...

ok , i'm stupid . went back to the power options and changed the never sleep while plugged in to a value and now sleep mode works .

also i found a command to run in command prompt mode from HP help , powercfg-h ON

this put the hibernation option back on the advanced settings list in the power options . i didn't even realized it was missing .

thanks for the hint , sometimes a hit in the head helps , lol .
