how to import contacts to windows live messenger

I went from XP to windows 7. I opened my windows live messenger and only some of the contacts are there. I haver my contact list saved, but there is no place to import them...Where do I go to import the contact list?

Out of curiosity what version of MSN messenger 7 , 8 etc or are you talking about windows live.

Do you use the MSN browser software or just MSN messenger

Is it possible that the contacts are there and are just blocked? if so you can add them back into your list.
