So, normally when you see this subject you think "It's probably a virus" or "Just clean the registry" but it's not that type of problem. It's not that I turn it on and it's just so slow to turn on. It's not that at all. When I turn off my laptop, it seems to turn off just fine, except after windows seems to close. The screen turns off, but the computer stays on. I've waited for nearly an hour for it to turn off and it doesn't. I hit the power button once, and it turns right off without having me to hold down the button like if it froze. Then when I go to turn it on again, nothing happens. I thought it would be because my battery was crap. I couldn't have my computer unplugged for longer then 5 minutes before it shuts down. So, I took out the battery and had it plugged directly into the wall, then tried to turn it on. I know it should turn on, because I've had to do it before, but it still didn't turn on at all. I have to hit the power button, and then wait over an hour for it to turn on. Then there is another strange occurrence. I am currently dual booting windows XP and windows 7. When I have it on XP, it turns on and off with no problem at all, but I have the problem when I boot it up from 7. That was the main reason I installed XP, but direct 3D refuses to work so I installed 7 as well so I could play my games. I'm pretty confident it's a hardware issue, but I don't know why it only happens when it boots windows 7. Granted, it is an old laptop, a Dell Studio 1737 thats about 4 or 5 years old I do believe. If there is any information that anyone needs let me know, and I will post it. Any help at all would be very much appreciated.
