    Read only external hard drive

    Hi just got a Toshiba 500Gb external HDD. I am running Windows 7 (64bit). Brand new, plugged in drive, disk management eventually recognized it but as read only. Cannot change permissions or reformat and Toshiba haven't sent a reply so you're my last hope. Is there anything else I can try? ???
