My Acer aspire netbook Hard drive crashed, but...
    « on: April 08, 2013, 02:57:15 PM »
My internal Hard-drive wont read in my acer aspire netbook "no bootable disk", but when I used a imposure and connected it to a Mac, it read it, But when I connected to a another windows PC its seems to act wierd or not read at all. Is it corrupt and can I fix it on a Mac that read it?

When you boot the computer, the Acer splash screen should come up for a few seconds.

On that splash screen, it should tell you to press a button to go into Setup. (The key should be F1, F2, F11, Del, etc...)

Once you get into the BIOS setup, make sure your hard drive is the first primary boot device.

Save changes and restart the computer.

OK, I went into the BIOS menu, but I don't see my hard drive information under IDE0. Again, with the enclosure (I forgot to say that properly the first time) I can read it off a Mac, but not on windows.

      That's really strange.

Are you sure it's an IDE drive?

Macs can read NTFS. Cannot write.

No, I just plugged it in a Mac at school and it loaded. Thats how I backed up my data off it. Its just corrupted on a Windows.

If Acer laptop cannot see hard drive in BIOS, either hard drive is bad or something is wrong with Acer motherboard.  Even if hard drive is new with nothing on it, BIOS will see it.  If it didn't, you would never be able to install Windows.

I think you need to try a different hard drive in the Acer, but I suspect a problem with the laptop hardware.

Also since you were able to have the drive seen on another PC i would burn any important data to DVD/CD's and then DLoad and run the Free diagnostics from the drive manuf. site...
Run the Long test just to be sure.
