{Help Request} - Weird Desktop folder in downloads folder
    « on: August 13, 2013, 03:57:19 PM »
Hi, so I have come across some sort of problem on my laptop.

    In my 'Downloads' folder at:

    C:\Users\DELL\Downloads

I have a 'Desktop' like folder that looks like the one in the favorites section:

When I delete this folder from the downloads which I want to do, it also deletes like my entire desktop, removing everything of it,
and also when ever I try to access the desktop folder on the favorites feature, I get this this error message:

It's like my desktop has changed loacations to my downloads some how and I have no idea how to get it back to normal.

Also I'm not sure if this is part of the same problem, because it happens when I delete or don't delete the desktop folder..
But when I riight click on a video or image or anything like that, or any file type, and click open with, and choose default programme I get this error message:

(That was trying to choose default programme to open it with for a random picture in my dowloads folder, though I get the same message no matter on the location or how new/old the file is)

Any help with these issues will be much appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

When did this begin? Were there other error messages, even unrelated ones? Did you recently install some 'free' software? Did you visit a porn site? Do you hkave a resident virus protection?

This has been happening for quite a while, and I use AVG full protection along with frequent searches with Spybot, and Malwarebytes.  there is no other messages nor have there ever been. and I only download and install files from places I know are trusted, and I carefully read what I'm installing when installing something. As for porn sites, yeah sure, but only one I've been using for a very long time and have never had a issue with.. but if that was to download a virus surely AVG, or spybot, or Malware bytes would pick it up.

Hard to say. The number of known infections is over 3 billion. I read that somewhere.

Here are some things to test. Boot in safe mode. Also, try using another user account. You may have corruption of a user account. That may or may not be related to malware. Try that and see what you find. I think the folder is only in you main user account. If the account is corrupted, you can fix it readily.

        Try this link http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/104440-favorites-restore-default-favorite-links-navigation-pane.html
After deleting my desktop folder then going to that site, and downloading the new one from there, it actually worked, so thank you.
