Thoughts on PC?
« on: November 25, 2014, 03:48:36 AM »
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/NvY6yc

This is basically it. i'm pretty confident with it but need some opinions before i finalize it :)

What i will use it for:
Some games (example) minecraft, cod, sims 4, etc (GPU can handle these :P)
3D designing and CAD programs like autodesk inventor.
video editing/pictures.
movie watching.
and having like 15 to 20 internet tabs open most of the time.

Questions: I would like to download movies from iTunes and such. I'm wondering if the networking card i put in it will be slow.

Thanks feel free to add stuff that i may need. my budget can stretch to $4000 :)

Looks fine other than a couple of issues.

The 450w PSU is cutting it way to close and the Corsair CSM series are low quality at best.  Look at something like this: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650gts3x or this if you require modular cabling: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cp9020054ww.

Secondly, make sure you need 32gb of RAM, RAM is not as cheap as it was a few years ago.  If you do, I'd advice you swap that Corsair Dominator stuff out for something cheaper like this: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl10q32gbxl.  Corsair Dominator RAM is really overpriced, you are paying for the looks and that's about it.  The performance benefit is minimal to non-existent.

Also consider whether you really need the 980, you are ordering a 1080p monitor which is relatively low resolution, a 970 would be more than sufficient.  Failing this, consider a higher resolution monitor, something like 1440p.  1080p on 27" is pretty horrible, 1440p will at least take advantage of the larger screen by giving you a lot of space to work.

Your network card is fine although running a dedicated wire to the router will always be better than a wireless connection so do this if it is at all possible.
