Cannot load Office 2010 onto my laptop running vista

I recently had to make a sudden move because of medical issues     and so I grabbed my (long unused) laptop to take with me so that I would have a computer handy.  However, it did not have Windows office with "Word" and "excel" so I was unable to open many of my files.   So  I purchased an unused version of Windows office 2010.  But when I try to load it I get the message that:   "to use and install this program you must be running Vista SP1 on x86 or x64 platforms".    Evey attempt that I have made to find out  how to correct this has failed.  Can anyone help me?
I am running a 2006 version of vista on a HP dv9000 laptop.

See if you can download the service pack from the above link and install it

Allen:  Thank you so much.     Once again you  have pulled my fat out of the fire.  My mind is not functioning normally since my last surgeries.  Anyway, I got SP1 and  Office 2010 loaded and working.  Thanks again.  My blessings to you all.  Keep up the good  work.        JIM
