booting issues
« on: November 10, 2005, 03:32:50 PM »
Hey,
Sorry if there is a better place for this, I gladly move if I'm wrong. I think my notebook is having a serious problem. It froze up followed by a harsh clicking noise, and went into an error screen which said somthing along of "shut down your computer and go into safe mode". So I shut down my computer and restarted it. The clicking sound is still there and it says "boot failure reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device press any key to continue." It occasionally says CD/DVD-0 not found. It will also not let me go into safe mode. The only thing that seems to make a diffrence is the recovering disks as it will say "starting windows" but will just end up giving me a screen that says I/: or somthing simular.
It had been having trouble shutting down latley(I have only had it for three weeks now, new) in which it would say "windows is shutting down" but would not finish. All the lights would turn off execpt for the battery so I would just turn it off manually. I have windows XP home edition by the way.

You have a defective hard drive. The clicking is bad news. The error message means it cannot be accessed. Since you have only had it 3 weeks, take it back for a a replacement. There is no need to try a self repair on this.
