USB virus/malware - how to remove it and save my files ?
    « on: August 21, 2015, 03:30:06 PM »
    Hello.

I recently took my usb drive to get a few printouts done from a PC shop. When I connected my usb at home later, it shows the space occupied by the files, but all the files are gone, and there is just a shortcut with the drive name inside. When I click on it, i get an error message that says -

"There was a problem starting /gIug.eGsKwO0cEqS4WyQsUm4W8kCoQCeGsUmEqIkMyaiKS6iKwYAmOqS4Y0cE0cOgU

The specified module could not be specified."

Can i somehow get rid of this malware/virus and retrieve my files at the same time? Please help me out.

    Thanks a lot

Hi it likes the pc shop you went too had a virus on their machine and the virus has wiped your usb stick clean.
go back to the shop and tell them what has happened and see if they have your files backed up on their machine also tell them that they have a virus and what are they going to do about it.
Running windows 8.1 at moment all protect by McAfee Antivirus, CCleaner and 5 Auslogics products all paid for plus sticky password

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

      1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
      2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
      3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
      4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
      5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
      6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
      7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

You should always observe the 10 second rule when inserting your memory stiick in an unknown computer, if possible.

Flash Disinfector was designed to remove unwanted files including autorun.inf on removable USB drives, flash drives and memory sticks. Use flash disinfector if you cannot access your USB drives, flash drives and memory stick due to modifications done by autorun Worms.

      Please download Flash_Disinfector from HERE
•First, download it to your desktop.

•Now double click it to run it and it will tell you what to do when you open it.
•It will temporarily kill explorer.exe and your desktop will go blank.

•Let Flash_Disinfector do it's job and it will restart explorer.exe for you.

•It will make a dummy autorun.inf in the root of every drive.

      •You can now delete Flash_Disinfector.exe.
