Acer Aspire One D260 Intel Atom N475 running very very slow!
    « on: September 30, 2015, 07:35:13 PM »
Hello. I need help with my Acer Aspire One D260 Intel Atom N475, 2Gb DDR 3, with 320 GB HDD running on Windows 7 starter.

It's been running so slow! Often times I have to restart it or run CCleaner every once in a while.

I have tried running AVAST (Free) but it doesn't detect any virus.

    I have a few questions:

    1) will reformatting do me good? (I haven't tried reformatting since I bought this 5 years ago)

    2) Can I still upgrade my RAM and should I expect any improvement if I do that?

    Thanks!

    Calum

I wouldn't expect miracles from an Atom-based machine but a reformat and fresh install will at least bring it back to as-new speed, assuming there are no hardware faults.  Windows 7 starter is limited to 2GB of RAM so you won't be able to upgrade that unfortunately.  You could consider changing the HDD for a small SSD which would improve bootup times, program load times, and so forth, but I'm not sure if it would be cost effective for a 5 year old netbook.
