    Unsupported video format
    « on: December 09, 2016, 04:42:55 PM »
I have tried to use a tv to replace my pc monitor. Initially it worked ok but the tv displayed a picture filling only half of the tv screen.
I altered the resolution of one of the devices, tv orpc. {Not sure which.} The result: tv screen displays following message "Unsupported
Video Format" on a black background whenever I try to repeat using it to display pc output. I have tried changing the pc resolution to no avail.
Is there any way I can reset the tv resolution. I'm locked out of it now, cannot find a way back in!  :(

Some TV sets don't play well. If it we me, I would take the TV back to the vendor and tell them it does not work well with your PC.

I have two TV sets here for my PC. One is very well-behaved and the other always makes a fuss. The one that gives me trouble is a famous brand name!

Some TV sets do not do HDMI very well. Try VGA if you can.

      Thank you for reply, Geek.
I did use VGA to join the two up, as there were no HDMI ports on the PC. The PC is three years old, so cannot be returned to vendor. But I don't think it is the PC that's at fault, as it worked fine until I altered
the resolution. The problem is how to access the TV so I can revert it to original res, whatever that was,
and so get rid of black screen displaying the fault message.

The TV is a Toshiba Regza Model No: 37RV635D    [The normal resolution is 1920x1080.]
It is not connected to the PC now. The PC is a Lenovo H520e, connected to the original monitor.

Have downloaded manual from the link you sent, but it's the same manual I already have. Will download PC manual tomorrow (one I have is useless).

Downloaded a more extensive TV manual this morning, plenty of info but not enough to crack this particular problem. Managed to try out a notebook computer on my TV, using HDMI it worked perfectly. At least this shows the other inputs are ok, the fault must lie in the PC input not accepting the VGA cable. (Even though
it did work initially). If I had not changed the resolution it would probably be working now. Probably trying
            to conjoin VGA/HDMI is unworkable?

If the TV now works with notebook or whatever it means you didn't wonk the TV thankfully...
As far as trying the PC on it again we don't have enuff info to advise whether it'll work...or not work.

In the Toshiba TV  menu there ought to be help area. There you should find web sites that have specific info for the Toshiba TV. That might be a beater source.

            It's not the TV...
I have a Toshiba TV. Sometimes I have to reset the input to make the screen come to life. It may not be the TV. Still Ii am not going to buy a new PC because the TV does mot play well with my old Dell GX520.

The issue has to do with how HDMI works.

EDIT: Thee are many reports of users having difficulty with a VGA HDMI interface. Also, sometimes DVI HDMI mat not work very well.

Obviously, the quality of the adapter is a big  concern.
