Advice on my build

Hello I am looking at building my first gaming computer, I am a bit of a budget and would like to build it for around 1000 dollars.

Any advice to drop the cost or increase the effectiveness while keeping the cost low would be greatly appreciated.

Looks okay although there are a couple of problems I can see:

• Your CPU and motherboard are incompatible - The best CPU you can get on that board is an i7 6700k.  If you want to use the 6800k or better then you would need to get a higher end motherboard with a LGA2011 socket.  For gaming, the 6700k is more than enough.
• That video card is extremely outdated (from 2011) - I'd replace that with something from a current line such as an NVIDIA GeForce 1000 series or a AMD Radeon 4xx series card.  Looking up benchmarks for cards to see how they perform in the games you want to play woudl be the best option here.  You may also want to consider dropping your CPU down to an i5 if this would allow you to spend more to get a better video card.

With a modern GPU (and not that power hungry and slow Radeon 6990) you could also save a fair bit by dropping the PSU down to a 650w or even a 550w model.
