Tweaking.com - Windows Repair
« on: June 05, 2017, 06:26:39 PM »

So yesterday I learned a lesson. Don't force delete folders/files from "old" user profile folders. I did and it corrupted my Windows Component Store and resulted in a broken OS. I could log in but the Start menu and would not open and the built-in Windows apps would open but then crash. Restore points were MIA and resetting (refreshing/reinstalling) the OS ended in an error. I also couldn't create a new User account. Luckily I could still right-click on the Start button and open different folders and system settings. I tried all of the usual fixes, sfc /scannow, Disk Repair and re-registering files. Nothing worked. As a last ditch effort I installed Tweaking.com - Windows Repair and it fixed the corrupted files. It took a while but it worked.

I like Windows 10 but it still has some hiccups. This all started by buying my daughter a new laptop. I added her to the MS family account so I could put money in her Xbox account. When I added her to the family account Windows decided to rename my account to her name and login. I would have to log on my computer under her name and it would then go to my Windows account. She never even had a user account on my laptop!

Edit/PS: Backup, backup, backup! Luckily I learned that lesson a long time ago. I have to go through my settings and put them back to where they were and reinstall a few things plus get my browser setting sorted out but all of my personal files were backed up.
