Why are fantasy RPG games popular?
« on: January 29, 2018, 08:38:50 AM »
A new Dragon Age game was announced a few days ago, and I was wondering, what makes medieval RPGs games so popular?

I've asked this question on game development forums and the general answers was along the lines of:

the game developers being afraid of trying something new because it could turn out to be a failure.

Okay, I understand that, but it's just frustrating to see the same fantasy RPGs with the same common elements being slightly altered and sold. I won't mind seeing a different type of RPG, for example, a spy RPG. There was one along time ago, from Red Storm Entertainment, called Shadow Watch, the graphics were simple, and the game play was easy to understand, but it wasn't all that popular. Not long after RSE became part of Ubisoft.

Do you think we'll see the end of medieval RPGs being popular anytime soon?
