Black & White Help Help Help!
« on: January 03, 2006, 03:19:09 PM »
Well finally, 5 years after its release Ive finally bought Black & White and I can't get it to work. It tells me on attempting to run the game that its has caused an illegal operation and must shut down contact vendor blah blah blah. I've installed all the patches and reinstalled the game  ::).

I'm attempting to run it on PC Win 98, as far as I know it has all the recommended system requirements and its still not working. Does anyone have any advice for me?

This is the complete error message:

RUNBLACK caused an invalid page fault in

Have you installed the latest DirectX and videocard drivers?

You may also need to install the most recent Windows 98 [critical] updates.

As mentioned above DDRAW.DLL is affiliated with DirectX. Make sure you have the latest DirectX drivers. Because DirectX is also affiliated with your sound and video drivers I also suggest you also try getting updated video and sound drivers.

Yeh I did a search for ddraw.dll and found that it was associated with directx. All has been updated and reinstalled with no effect. Think I'm just going to have to give it up as a bad job. Managed to get it to play and install no problems on my bro's laptop, so its not too bad. Ive done quite a few searches online as well and it seems that most people appear to have had problems with this game. When they get past one problem another appears to crop up.

Good game though when you eventually get it to work without glitches, although the controls are a nightmare!

Thanks again everyone for advice.

You could run dxdiag, it might shed some light on the problem.
