Can't install Windows Xp Home Edition SP2 disk
« on: January 06, 2006, 10:22:05 PM »
Hello.
I recently purchased a computer building kit online at tigerdirect.com and i put together the computer.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1710559&Sku=M450-2304%20A

I also purchased the Windows XP Home Edition Embedded with Service Pack 2.

I can't seem to install it. It locks up during installation. I've even tried a boot disk but all i got was this error.

File \ntkrnlmp.exe could not be found.
The error code is 7.
Setup cannot continue.
Press any key to continue.

So now im stuck with a computer that wont install Windows. Anyone have any ideas about what to do? Im stumped. Thanks.

Always suspect the hardware configuration first. Was this all pre-built or did you have tot assemble some or all of it?

yeah i wouldnt think that they would send me another bad one. but you never know...
what do you suggest i do? im pretty sure i installed everything correctly
i mean it just freezes during the installation of Windows. wouldnt that be a problem with something else? or could it be the RAM?

just out of curiosity.. would it be possible to just temporarily put the hard drive into this computer and install windows here and then put the drive back into the new computer?

That never works out well. Don't even think about that.

In the eend, if it is a hardware problem Windows will not solve it anyway.

the cd is clean... but it is the OEM verison of Windows XP Home with embedded SP2. it is not an upgrade

i dont know if trying to clean the ram will help because i already tried putting in the 512 mb stick from this computer into the new one.

i'll try it anyways just to see if it helps.
thanks

i just thought i'd add this:
when i get as far as where it starts copying the files the install directory of windows, it gets up to 40% and freezes at a file called tsbyuv.dll
