Enabling CD Rom within Win 3.11?
« on: February 16, 2006, 10:37:01 AM »
Hello all,

As my very first post can I stretch your combined brainpower and experience to allow me to enable a CD Rom in Win 3.11?

Digging into my memories of DOS and such early versions of Windows I have:

1. Downloaded Generic Mscdex and Oakcdrom.sys

2. The Mscdex consisted of versions 221, 222, 223

3. Which is correct for the above version of 3.11?

I have included the correct syntax for Mscdex and drivename etc in both Autoexec.bat and Config.sys.

But when I boot up, the final sequence of searching within Mscdex is displayed as Incorrect version.

Does this mean the Dos or Mscdex?

The machine running Win 3.11 is a platform PC (AMD DX2/50MHZ, 256mb) for my friend's garage emission gases analyser and the updates for it's software are now supplied on CDs. I know we could break these down on another PC and produce floppies but it seems old hat to do this now.

Very grateful for any help...

P.S. If successful will the CD Rom show up in program manager? Congratulations for what looks like an excellent site/forum.

Hi All,

SORTED! It was version 222 of Mscdex (downloaded from your website), Thanks for that.
