    firmware sites?
    « on: February 26, 2006, 10:47:09 AM »
do you know any sites from where you can download firmware? specifically, i am looking for firmware for a sony dvd rw dw-u14a. so far i have only found this site forum.rpc1.org/portal.php , yet the versions available do not work, one way or another. the 2.0d link is broken and the 2.0e version, after downloading and accessing it, says i have no updatable drivers, which is odd. help is highly appreciated.

A lot of people have made doorstops by trying to do unneccesary firmware updates on optical drives. If you are not having issues that a firmware update FROM THE MANUFACTURER specifically addresses, I would definitely pass.  ;)

i am having trouble writing dvdrws. nero keeps saying "illegal disk" to any manufacturer i try burning. searching some forums, it was suggested to update the firmware, and in some people's cases who had had the same problem it actually worked. that is why i'm looking for firmware.

Have you visited Sony's site to search for firmware for your drive?  That's the logical place to get it.

One simple rule of thumb when trying to burn DVDs of any variety: don't use cheap media.  It makes a big difference.
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.

the drive is a sony dvd rw dw-u14a. nero is 6.6.0.18.
i have searched sony's site, and it does have firmware, yet not for my model oddly enough.
i have tried all kinds of media, both expensive and cheap. same error.
i wasn't able to find any firmware on videohelp. could you give me an exact link?

I would contact SONY long before I would even consider downloading some supposed firmware update which may harm the drive from another source.    ;)
