i have two memory slots in my computer, can i use 256mb in one and 512mb in the other? windows xp,amd sempron3000+

Evening,
 I'm new here too but saw this so figured I'd respond. My step-son has a system similar to yours & that's what's in his..one 256 & one 512, seems to run fine. Hasn't had any problems that I'm aware of. I have an ancient CTX that I have a 32 in one slot & a 128 in the other & it does fine.

If the motherboard in your computer will accommodate "dual-channel memory", I believe you need two identical memory modules to take advantage of that capability.  Otherwise, two modules of different size, as the 256MB and 512MB you mentioned, should work fine.
