The Sims Deluxe Instillation Problem
« on: April 16, 2006, 09:46:43 AM »
Hi,

I have just tryed loading The Sims Deluxe Edition on my new computer, my previous computer ran on 98 and the program ran beautifully, now I tyred loading it onto my new computer running on XP and the instillation went fine until it prompted me to insert the second disk.  From there it ran again for about another minute or so and then stopped at 95% an error message was displayed reading....COMPONENT TRANSFER ERROR. the instillation program then terminated.

I have checked all the requirements and i have them all.

I have also tryed cleaning the disks, running the Program COmpatibility Wizard and reloading the disks.

I really love this game and want to play ASAP, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

THANKS ADAM!!!

This is what I found on EA Games:

A 'Component Transfer Error' this early in the installation means that there is either an incomplete uninstall or a corrupt previous installation of the game.  To resolve this issue, you will need to completely remove the game from your system and then reinstall it.

Ok, let's remove everything that is about the sims from that computer. Special instructions are here: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/cci/ea/sims_udr.php?p_sid=%3C?%20echo%20$p_sid%20?%20%20%3E ...

Try this along with the other steps in the link I gave you. Click on Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter. Run a defrag AFTER you have followed all the other steps in the link. This might work. If not I've got one more Ace up my sleeve  ;)

What did you learn from the manufacturer's web site?

Manufacturer says to deal with the registry. Just got IMed, and it hasn't worked. I told the visitor to download a utility called the sims eraser. We will now await a reply.

Ok, we ran Remote Assistance. My conclusion is that the CD must have a scratch on it. Must be just deep enough, and in just the right spot so it can't read the file. The viewer will be calling EA Games tomorrow.
