defective hard drive
« on: April 24, 2006, 07:42:31 PM »
A few months ago one of my friends had a defective harddrive.  At the time, I posted on here inquiring if anyone knew how to retrieve info. off the old harddrive. Someone suggested freezing the hard drive. I tried it and recovered all the data. I had to freeze it three times but it worked each time. Some of my computer tech friends were skeptical but are now believers. Thanks for the help.

I think I mentioned that and I am glad that it worked! (Sometimes those urban legends work out.) ;)

SuperDave.....  Oh yes , I remember that well ...it was back in January of this year.......( if my memory serves me ) .....did you use a plastic bag or just put it in as it was ?
That trick works most of the time but , not always....... .glad to hear it worked for you .

Cheers and thanks for the update......

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

We wrapped in a plastic bag and stuck it in the freezer for about two weeks before trying it. After the first try we were thinking about wrapping the drive in two gel packs to see how long we could keep it running.
