« on: June 28, 2006, 05:31:46 PM »
I have a emachine t2895 2.80GHz intel celeron cpu XP Sevice pack 1 And I can put my computer in standby mode with the button an the keyboard or by using the start button and it standby's but in an hour it starts itself back up I have ran virus scan on it and have found no issue with it plus spyware and adware JI did have 2 of these but it still will turn itself back on
I also have a problem with my volume control it will mute itself when it wants to I have no idea why but you can be listening to a song and it just mute itself Thank You

2 of what?

Are there any errors in device manager?

I would forget about this hibernation feature for starts. The volume control muting sounds like a hardware rather than software issue. Are you using some sort of multimedia keyboard?

If concerned about malware read here:

I did 2 virus scan which show none . there are no  errors in device manager. So on the volume mute  it could be the sound card going bad? I would still like to know why the computer wakes itdelf up from standby mode if nobody is by it ?

Can you try a conventional PS/2 keyboard and verify that everything works normally with that?

I had the same problem with standby and hibernate. It was like the computer was hyperactive and couldn't just sit their and be energysaving.

It turned out that it was my eithernet connection. "Wake on LAN" was on.

If you have Cable/DLS connected through ethernet, do the following:
    Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware*>Device Manager
    (*Windows XP)
Then find your network adapter, then go to "Power Management" then unselect "Bring This Device Out Of Standby" and check "Let The Computer Turn Off This Device To Save Power"

    (picture Below)

If that doesnt work, visit www.trendmicro.com for a FREE virus/malware scan and REMOVAL
