computer is gettting a blue screen that is popping

I cant seen to boot my computer correctly. i get to the windows loading page and a blue screen pops up. It flashes away so quickly i cant read it. My computer goes blank after that. My friend seems to think it has something to do with the hard drive. I've tried to reinstall windows xp, but that blanks out also. Does any1 have any suggestions

    when does it black out?
    does it black out without warning?

    Use the free diagnostics from the appropriate hard drive maker's site to see if that is a problem.

    when i am trying to install windows xp it says that setup is inspecting my hardware configuration.  When i am just trying to boot without installing it will get to the windows welcoming page , then the blue screen will quickly flash on and off. It then blacks out.

    Some people report problems and then it turns out they were trying to use some burned, pirated CD. (Believe it or not, that can cause problems!)

    Well, i kinda forgot to mention that i have had windows installed for about a year now. Also i believe there was a storm while i was gone. And i dont have a surge protecter for the power strip. Could that be the problem, and if so, how do u fix it, or can u???

    yeah ive tried it, my HDD is a Maxtor Diamondmax plus 9 hard drive. It doesnt answer my questions though

    Did it answer the question about the integrity of the drive? That was really the only question we had there brought up by your friend in the original post.

    Are you able to boot into safe mode, if not are you able to view the bios setup screen.

    Well, yes and know, i select to boot in safe mode and the same thing happens.

    I went to the BIOS Setup and chose to boot from Cd drive first,

    My computer says that setup is inspecting my hardware configuration and then blacks out.

    The most common causes are bad RAM, bad hard drive, bad motherboard and bad power supply.

    You said you tested the hard drive, and let's assume you did that correctly, so next would be the RAM. Free download at www.memtest86.com

    Try each RAM for about an hour individually, then all together.

    Do you have a known working power supply to test with?

    ya, actually i do, its exactly the same, except i think it works

    And how would i test the hard drive if that comp. doesnt work??? (sorry im being kinda hard to work with, im new at this stuff)
