Inspiron 1100 -Can't find Operating System

i have a 2 month old hard drive and now when i turn the computer on it says media test failure "check cable" and cannot find operating system.  it is not the hard drive because i got another one from dell and it did the same thing when i re-installed Windows.  help me out please...

Check cables? See if any of them requires replacement?

They may be loose, not neccassarily damaged, especially if it was shipped, could have become loosend in the process.

Inspiron 1100 is a notebook computer.  It uses a fexible mylar cable, which is nearly impossible to break.
