I'm not very computer savy, but I was needing space on my C: drive so I think I compressed everything.  Hard drive is partioned in 2 drives. One with only 13.9 gb and the other 45 gb. I'm using windows xp home edition. thx for any help. The process I did is as follows: I right clicked on the c: and went into properties. An option there to compress the drive to make more space so thats what I did.  I know I'm prolly an idiot.  :-/

Compressing the entire hard drive is not a good idea as it can really slow things down.  Try starting the computer in Safe Mode and then decompress the hard drive.

I cant do anything at all. The computer doesnt even come on. No fans, no drives running, nothing. Only thing on is the light on the mobo and the light on the front of the case.  Any chance the psu has died. I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that my computer will restart itself.

After you decompress the hard drive, try going into My Computer, right-clicking Local Disk C:, and choosing Properties.  In the Properties dialog box, choose the Disk Cleanup button.  Windows XP will delete any temporary files you no longer need and compress only the files you have not used in a long time and keep all the rest that you use each day the normal size.
