Which processor should I use?
« on: November 23, 2006, 08:02:28 PM »
I'm trying to build a new machine here, and I was going to go with a 3.2 GHz Celeron D.  What would be its equivalent in AMD.  I once heard that a 1.6 AMD was typically equal to a 3.2 Intel, is that true?

Thanks,

It would be a very wise decision to spend the extra money and buy an E6300 for 175$.

    Seconded
However, if you really can't/don't want to, an AMD Sempron 3200+ or above will give you about the same/better performance than the Intel Celeron D
An AMD Athlon 64/X2 will give you even better performance
However, as Track said, an E6300 will beat all of these but the top-end ones for cheaper

A Celeron D does not have equivalent with a current AMD. The AMD's are all better than that.

A sempron 64 3200+ will be (from what i hear) about twice the speed of a celeron D 3.2GHz.
      System Specs:
      AMD Athlon 64 3200+
      1024MB DDR400
      GeForce 7600GS
      160GB SATA II
      500-watt PSU

If u cannot afford a 175$ CPU, try going for an Athlon 64 or Pentium 4, not a Sempron or Celeron.
