Can't open "Game Controllers" in control panel?

Hello all,
I've been trying to calibrate a joystick on my Toshiba laptop (Windows XP). When I click on :Game Controllers" in the control panel, nothing happens. I've even tried to right click and go to "open", but it still won't work. Other items in the control panel work.
Help!

Did you go to 'add hardware' in the control panel?

Most but not all joysticks require their own software to be installed to be completely functional...have you done this ? ?

I already installed it. I just never calibrated it. I don't think that's relevant to what my question is though.
The game controllers thing won't open at all. I double click it and nothing happens.

Try uninstalling the controller software and reinstall

I just uninstalled and reinstalled the software.

I still can't open the "game controllers" thing in the control panel.
Just to make sure we're all on the same page here, I'm talking about the thing that comes with Windows (like the keyboard, mouse, system, network connections, etc. icons), not any software I installed.

Well,if you tried system restore to an earlier time when you could open the
game controller in control panel by clicking on the game controller icon......
wouldn't that work?See reply# 4.
