E:\ is not accessible.  Incorrect function.
« on: January 13, 2007, 11:36:41 PM »
Hello ComputerHope members!

I am getting the error:
E:\ is not accessible.  incorrect function.
whenever I put a blank CD in my CD ROM R/W drive.

This problem started recently, and the drive has functioned before.

I am using Windows XP, this is an ASUS CDW drive. I also have a DVD drive.

The drive is able to open a regular CD, but not a blank CD.

I do not have any recording software that is not compatible with the drive or Windows XP as a Windows XP online document described. (and I removed my current software to be sure)

I uninstalled the driver, and then had my computer search for new devices, it re detected the CD RW drive, and installed it, and still didn't work.

When I right click the drive, and click properties, there is no recording tab.

What is causing this problem, and how can it be fixed? There have been no major changes to my PC recently, except for the installation of a new video card and the software that came with it.

Thank you for your time and effort.
(I cant wait until I get my 100MBPS Fiber Internet connection! Dial up just takes the Internet away)

Try this, switch your drives around then do the following below.

    Right-Click on E: drive
    Properties
    Recording Tab
and then check the "Enable CD Recording On This Drive" box.

Right click on drive. Go to Properties; Click on Recording; Check "Enable CD recording on this drive". If it wasn't clicked before this will probably do it.

Otherwise here is what Microsoft has to say about it.

"Incorrect function" error message when you access the CD-ROM drive, the DVD-ROM drive, or the CD-RW drive- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315350

CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device- http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316529

    Frankie and Stones:
Unfortunately, as I have described in my post, I have no recording tab present.

Luckily, the drive just started working on its own again. I just burned my Ubuntu Linux CD. I didn't do anything prior, just let the computer sit powered-off for the night, and it worked in the morning. (Even though I tried restarting it and it still didnt work)

Well, all is better now, thanks anyways

Street1: As soon as I get fiber internet, I will be back on computer hope during my spare time again. Dealing with dial up just isnt worth it.
