Windows XP Doesn't detect my video camera

All of a sudden, for no apparant reason, windows will not detect my firewired connected Sony videocamera.
What can be the cause ???

Have you installed anything recently that may have either overwritten system files or cause a hardware conflict?

Check in Device Manager, if there are any problems.

Run sfc /scannow

The only program I've added is a anti-virus program.  I have not added any hardware.  The device manager shows no problems.  How can I repair Windows?

Is the virus scanner attempting to scan the device?

remove the firewire* and re-boot then shut it down then replace firewire*<*caution is needed when doing this if unsure dont attempt it>also have you got sp2 update?have a look in the add/remove programs..maybe the firewire as gone up the creak..is this the only connection for your vid cam...
